The Ignatian Spirituality Project (“ISP”) began in 1998 in Chicago when Fr. Bill Creed, SJ was asked to make the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius available to people with experiences of homelessness. ISP is now an international network offering spiritual retreats and companionship programs in 29 cities around the United States, Canada, and Ireland. In the fall of 2016, ISP expanded to Toronto where, through an innovative partnership with Regis College, the first ISP Toronto retreats were held.
ISP-Canada was established in 2021 as a collaboration between a group of religious communities and the ISP US Network to support the development of ISP across Canada. The Founding Communities of ISP-Canada including the Sisters of St. Joseph, Toronto, the Congregation of Notre Dame – Visitation Province, and the Jesuits of Canada.
Where We Are
ISP Toronto started in 2016 and provides weekend retreats for men and women hosted by the Sisters of St. Joseph at Villa St. Joseph in Cobourg and facilitated by volunteer retreat teams, along with ongoing spiritual accompaniment to retreat alumni. Retreat facilitator teams include religious and lay people from multiple Christian faith traditions and work experiences, alumni of post-graduate theological and spiritual programs, and alumni of ISP Toronto retreats who are in recovery themselves. Organizations that ISP Toronto partners with include Villa St. Joseph, Regis College, and transitional homes including Alpha House, St. Michael’s Homes, Broadview Homes, and others. ISP Montréal is in development and will begin holding retreats in 2022 at Villa Saint Martin, a centre of Ignatian Spirituality run by the Jesuits of Canada. For more information please contact email@example.com
